If you go to the Mythology & Folklore section they keep saying the world is going to end in 2012 so I wouldn’t worry to much about it. lol.
I agree. If we look at the laws of physics (Newtons 3rd law) For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction. There are so many things killing animals and people..to begin there is over population…which leads to poverty…which leads to deforestation (to provide food)..which leads to less habitat and the release of CO2 in the trees…which leads to warming of the earth..which leads to melting in the Arctic..which again causes animals to loose habitat and humans also (rising sea level)..The list can go on and on and it truly affects everyone in so many ways…I believe that not only do religious groups need to recognize the problem..but so does everyone on this planet…great question!
i don’t think it is fair to blame religious people…
you’re asking people To fight basic instinct, every organism fights to reproduce and dominate for the better of their species. humans have just gotten to good at it for the worlds own good… if we want to live in a world worth being in we are going to have to start using are higher conscience to preserve this world…
BTW-polar bears are dieing because of global warming and oil drilling…
Where do you get your “facts”? Polar bears dying off??? Look, either you subscribe to evolution or creation, either way the world will be here, the creatures will either adapt, or the world will be renewed. I think there is greater things to spend energy on than worrying what may never happen.
The way I see it, after the death of our eco-systems- the plants and the animals that are in it, we’re that much closer to our own extinction.
I don’t think that “religious people defend the extinction of animals.” And it’s not just the numbers of people on the planet that are destroying the planet. It’s what we are doing (or not doing) while we’re here that is probably going to be the deciding factor. Humans have not been very respectful of our natural resources. We’ve abused our environment, and hopefully the time has come to recognize this fact and do something to save what we have before it is too late.
I’m not making the connection between religiosity and environmental issues. What does one have to do with the other? Is it cuz I’m Canuck?
You are talking about habitat destruction leading to species extinction, I believe? The big picture is a whole lot more complicated than that - but yes, habitat destruction (often deforestation but not exclusively deforestation) is connected to human population growth and this bumps out wildlife. There are so very many reasons behind species extinction - an important one (for an Australian parakeet species, for example) was the introduction of non-native grasses (by settlers). The paradise parakeet became extinct because the native (Australian) grass seeds that constituted a huge part of their diet - ceased to be. They couldn’t make the transition to introduced grasses - whereas other very similar species DID manage to make a successful transition (the scarlet-chested parakeet, once thought to be on the brink of extinction for this very reason. Incredibly, they BOUNCED BACK).
It’s a very, very complicated picture. I could go ON and ON and ON and ON…
but I won’t.
While it’s true that many religious people do not recognise the damage being done to our planet by our carelessness towards the natural world, it’s not fair to blame them for it all!
Many non-religious people also don’t try very hard to be environmentally aware ~ if at all.
It is very encouraging to see young people becoming so much more concerned and aware of this problem, and looking for solutions to it.
The future is in their hands, and I believe they will find a solution, but that does not mean the rest of us should stop trying, whatever our religious beliefs are.
